Everything Wrong With This Tweet

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

A brother recently asked me “How would you respond to this common atheist retort?”

“If you need someone to threaten eternal damnation in order to be a good person, you need more than just religion.”

My Response

This common atheist retort is self-unaware, historically illiterate, arrogant, stupid, contradicts science, contradicts atheist talking points, and is stupid.

Self-unaware because any person who peers into the depths of their own soul knows the potential for evil that lurks underneath. Serial killers are born from everyday people. See Jordan Peterson on this.

Historically illiterate because we have thousands of examples of atrocities committed by human beings, often on a mass scale, throughout history. Incidentally, many are atheists and liberals 🙂 .

Arrogant because he assumes he is a good person in saying this, whereas for him to make that statement he must ignore all of the bad things he’s done in his life or make light of them as well as have a more or less complete understanding of what a good person is.

It contradicts science because studies show that atheists are the least trusted group even by other atheists. I.e. everyone knows that atheists are less likely to be trustworthy, to hold themselves back from carnal desires which push comes to shove – even other atheists.

It contradicts atheist talking points because they are the ones claiming that organized religion is a sham used to control people. Fear of hell is alleged as the primary tool of control. How exactly can fear of hell simultaneously arguably the most effective tool of control ever devised in human history yet simultaneously be ineffective, since it is completely unnecessary to reign in one’s baser instincts and be a good person even when it’s tough?

And finally, it is stupid because all of what I’ve said above is common knowledge that he should know.

Perhaps the above is not all that’s wrong. Let me know what I missed in the comments below.
