Ayah
Lit. “sign,” usually referring to a sign from God. What is called a “verse” of the Quran in English is called an “ayah” in Arabic – because each “verse” is viewed as a sign from God. The word ayah can also be used to refer to the signs of God one finds in nature, or within their own soul – the common theme being anything that directs towards God.
