Shirk Jali
Lit. Open Shirk. A kind of conceptual shirk in which one openly denies the principle of monotheism, in its broadest sense. Atheism, materialism, and polytheism are all manifestations of shirk jali. Shirk Jali also includes acknowledging the One God, but denying His Sovereignty (rububiyya) over the whole of creation. This shirk negates a person’s Islam, such that a person who holds views that are shirk jali is considered a kafir. Shirk jali is in contrast to shirk khafi.
